Cannabis: Lost Sacrament of the Ancient World
Although prohibited in most of the today’s world, cannabis and humanity have a shared history that extends far back into ancient times. Evidence of its role in the production of cloth and rope goes back more than ten thousand years. Its psychoactive properties have also long been known by humanity, and ancient man attributed a supernatural force behind such effects. Archaeological evidence of cannabis ritual use of cannabis dates back to 3500 BCE, and it became considerably widespread. Egyptians, Assyrian, Babylonian and Persians used cannabis in Temple rituals, and for medical purposes, as has long been acknowledged, . Although, it has generally been seen that the neighbours of these cultures, the ancient Hebrews, whose religious history was recorded in the Bible’s Old Testament and the Hebrew Tanakh, rejected these practices. However, in 1936, a little known Polish anthropologist and etymologist put forth the controversial hypothesis that the Hebrew words, kaneh and kaneh bosm, identified cannabis, and had been mistranslated as calamus. This linguistic suggestion drastically changes the story of the Bible in a number of ways, but it seemed destined to be an obscure linguistic hypothesis, until 2020, when evidence from a 2,800 year old temple site in tel Arad, Jerusalem confirmed the ritual use of cannabis Among the ancient Hebrews "Chris Bennett’s latest offering, Cannabis: Lost Sacrament of the Ancient World, is by far his most focused work to date. Building on the formidable research presented in his previous efforts, Cannabis goes even further in demonstrating that hashish, without a doubt, played an important role in the religious life of the ancient Hebrews. The final nail in the coffin of the Kaneh Bosm debate, Bennett’s scholarly book challenges everything we thought we knew about both Judaism and ancient cannabis use."—P.D. Newman, author of Theurgy: Theory and Practice: The Mysteries of the Ascent to the Divine "With legalization of cannabis a central theme in politics today, the timing could not be better for this information to reach the public. This book should be sold in every dispensary. The abundant proof from a wide variety of sources, and the internal consistency of the patterns revealed, leave little doubt that even the most illustrious among our spiritual ancestors knew not only the usefulness of hemp, and the healing qualities of cannabis, but also the entheogenic properties of THC." —Ronnie Pontiac, Newtopia Magazine"Bennett gives us another tour de force of the deep history of Cannabis, spanning diverse societies of the Ancient Middle East."—Dr. Michael J. Winkelman, Editor of Advances in Psychedelic Medicine "Chris Bennett’s Cannabis: Lost Sacrament of the Ancient World draws together scholarly and archaeological evidence for the use of cannabis in ancient magico-religious practices in a balanced, comprehensive and accessible manner. In particular Bennett explores the influence of cannabis, and cannabis occasioned altered states of consciousness, on the Judeo-Christian traditions, especially its role in facilitating a sense of communion with the divine. Liber 420 Cannabis, Magickal Herbs and the Occult
The hidden history of cannabis in medieval and renaissance alchemy and magic Find out about the important role cannabis played in helping to develop modern medicines through alchemical works. Although little known, cannabis played a very important role in alchemy, and appears in the works of such figures as Zosimos, Avicenna, Paracelsus, Cardano and Rabelais. Cannabis also played a pivotal role in medieval and renaissance magic and recipes with instructions for its use appear in a number of influential and important grimoires such as the Picatrix, Sepher Raxiel: Liber Salomonis, and The Book of Oberon. Could cannabis be the Holy Grail? with detailed historical references, the author explores the allegations the Templars were influenced by the hashish ingesting Assassins of medieval Islam, and that myths of the Grail are derived from the Persian traditions around the sacred beverage known as haoma, which was a preparation of cannabis, opium and other drugs. Many of the works discussed, have never been translated into English, or published in centuries. The unparalleled research in this volume makes it a potential perennial classic on the subjects of both medieval and renaissance history of cannabis, as well as the role of plants in the magical and occult traditions. Shamanic Graffiti
100,000 Years of Drugs, 100 Years of Prohibition By Frank Ogden and Marcus Ashley Rummery Freud said dreams were the "royal road" to the unconscious, and then along came a superhighway: psychedelics. Personally, we can access the psychedelic experience, but Frank Ogden shepherded over a thousand people's experiences. What is presented is the howling unconscious released from the normal chemical constraints that restrict it. Written in the simple, but vivid style Frank popularized in his bestselling, The Last Book You'll Ever Read, Shamanic Graffiti presents an alternative history of the brain and it's functions: shamanism. Giving real world examples, the book finishes-up by exploring the theories of two pre-eminent psychedelic theoreticians, Dr. Timothy Leary and Dr. Stan Grof and looks at the future of psychedelic drugs. Frank Ogden was educated in Canada and the United States and served in World War II. During the 1960s, he joined a medical team researching LSD at Hollywood Hospital. He helped found Canada's first think-tank, taught at the Ontario College of Art and the New England School of Art in Boston, and was a founding member of the World Future Society in Canada. Frank has been profiled on numerous TV and radio stations and in newspapers and magazines around the globe, including: CNN, PBS, CBC, Forbes, LA Times, Globe & Mail, Washington Post; U.S. News & World Report; Toronto Sun, and Financial Times. Frank passed away in 2012. Marcus Rummery has been an artist all of his life. A member of numerous bands and comedy troops, he began performing stand-up comedy in 1996. He has performed all across Canada and been featured on CBC Radio's Definitely Not the Opera. In 2002 he became certified to teach Bikram's Method Hot Yoga, and since 2014 has taught his own yoga called "Hot Prana." In 2008 produced the film, Big Medicine – the Techno-Shamanism of Frank Ogden. Marcus lives in Vancouver Canada. The 15 Ounce Pound
Big Pharma’s Plan to Patent Pot By Joseph R. Pietri The legalization of marijuana and the loss of freedom In the United States, cannabis is currently illegal, but this book investigates how big pharmaceutical companies are looking at an end-game of legality—controlled by them. It examines how the Amsterdam scene has been transformed; how home growers have been manipulated into using inferior techniques; and how companies, with help from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and “big pharma,” are patenting cannabis strains for control and profit. The leadership of the cannabis industry want to legalize marijuana with taxation and regulation, but the pharmaceutical industry cannot take over medical cannabis without first shutting down the scene today. The book predicts that legalized production will be tightly controlled by major players, using the IRS and DEA as a means of removing other growers. Regulation will also control the amount of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in each marijuana cigarette, forcing stronger cannabis to be available to medical patients by prescription only. A black market will still exist, so people will still go to jail, and the drug war will go on. With history and explosive, behind-the-scenes looks at big pharma collusion, this book is both an exposé and an in-depth look at the arc of freedom and probable control through use of pharmaceutical patents for marijuana. Joseph R. Pietri is a former drug smuggler who is a legal purveyor of cannabis for medicinal purposes and the author ofThe King of Nepal. He lives in Cloverdale, Oregon. Consider the Lilies
Exposing the truth about cancer treatment This book is not about so-called alternative medicine. It is about standard, orthodox medicine that had many good treatments for cancer up until the early 20th century. For reasons of power and control of the population, it was decided around 1910 that only radiation and surgery would be the approved treatments (and chemo was later added in the 1950s).Maxwell shows how physicians who tried to use the older methods were threatened with loss of their medical license or were more harshly punished. These include Emanuel Revici, Virginia Livingston, and Robert Lincoln. She also argues that Edward Jenner’s so-called 18th century invention of a smallpox vaccine from “cowpox” was a total fake. Cannabis and the Soma Solution
by Chris Bennett "A treasure trove of up-to-date ancient information on cannabis. High recommended to round out your library on religious uses of psychoactive drugs."– Julie Holland, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry @ NYU School of Medicine. of The Pot Book. A Complete Guide To Cannabis. "This book is fascinating! There can be little doubt about a role for cannabis in Judaic religion . . . there is no way that so important a plant as a fiber source for textiles and nutritive oils and one so easy to grow would have gone unnoticed, and the mere harvesting of it would have induced an entheogenic reaction." —Carp P. Ruck, professor, Boston University Seeking to identify the plant origins of the early sacramental beverages Soma and Haoma, this study draws a connection between the psychoactive properties of these drinks and the widespread use of cannabis among Indo-Europeans during this time. Exploring the role of these libations as inspiration for the Indian Rig Veda and the Persian Avestan texts, this examination discusses the spread of cannabis use across Europe and Asia, the origins of the Soma and Haoma cults, and the shamanic origins of modern religion. Chris Bennett is an expert in the use of ethnobotanicals. He has contributed articles to numerous magazines, including Cannabis Culture and High Times, and he is the author of several books, including Green Gold the Tree of Life: Marijuana in Magic and Religion and Sex, Drugs, Violence and the Bible.
